A year ago, my son was diagnosed with a hormone deficiency, and the treatment costs more than $70,000 a year. Our healthcare plan pays for almost all of it (amazing), but we have to front about $15k before we are reimbursed later.

To cover the gap, until Friday, October 9 (or until they sell out), I’m offering to build 20 websites for $500 each (normally $3,000+).

This could be an author website, a website for your company, nonprofit, or personal project, or even a dedication to a cause you support.

I built my first website in 2007 to host my writing, and since then, I’ve built sites that have reached more than 30 million people: for my personal work, my business, clients, and friends and family, many for free or for the price of lunch.

Details

Sites will be built on WordPress. If you already have a website or domain, I’ll handle the migration. I’ll also provide a tutorial video to show you how you can make future changes and edits in the future.
After purchase you’ll fill out a detailed survey that will give me everything I need to build your site. We’ll follow up with a quick phone call to finalize it all and secure your domain.
Your site will be ready to review within about 3 weeks of your survey. You get one round of changes (I’ll be as reasonable as I can), then we launch.

Questions people have asked

Did you really build these sites yourself?: Yes. I built The Write Practice almost entirely on my own, over many years, and every site above. If you’d like to see more, just ask and I’ll send you a few.
Do I need to have a domain or hosting already?: No. I’ll find and register your domain for you, in your name. Renewals are covered as long as your hosting is active.
I already have a website. Can you work with it?: Yes. I’ll move your existing site and domain over and rebuild it, whether it’s on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or something else.
Can you build on Wix or Squarespace?: I build on WordPress. Wix and Squarespace are fine, but you can only do the things they let you do. WordPress is open source, which means I can customize it to fit what you need, and I can host and manage it all in one place. If you’re on Wix now, I’m happy to migrate you.
I’m not sure what to put on my site. Will you help me figure that out?: Yes, that’s a big part of what I do. After you sign up, you’ll fill out a detailed survey about your goals, your work and the style you like, and then we’ll get on a call to work out the plan together. I write the copy too.
How do I make changes after it launches?: I’ll give you a tutorial video that shows you how to change the text on your site yourself. Hosting includes basic software updates and keeping your site running. Bigger design changes down the road are extra, at a reasonable rate.
Do I have to blog or post all the time?: No. Your site can simply be a good home for you and your work. If you want a blog, I’ll set one up, but you never have to post if you don’t want to.
What does it cost in total?: $500 for Basic (or $3,000 for Client), paid once. Then $20 a month for hosting, starting when your site launches. Your domain is included.
Can I take payments or sell things on my site?: Basic ecommerce is one of the Client bonuses. On Basic, I can link to a store or payment page you already use, like Square or PayPal.
Can I buy more than one site?: Yes. Each site takes one of the 20 spots, so check out once for each site. You’ll fill out a separate survey for each one.
I’m busy right now. Can I sign up now and start later?: Yes. Grab your spot before October 9, then fill out the survey when you’re ready.
